The Portugal Telecom corporate sustainability strategy is integrated within the Group, in a coherent and transversal manner, being based on the development of a wide array of practices and processes, within three main categories: economic, environmental and social.
By representing the interface between the market and Group companies, for goods and services acquisition purposes, PT Compras assumes a fundamental role in corporate sustainability policies within the Group.
Portugal Telecom Sustainable Supplier Selection and Contracting Model
In 2006, Portugal Telecom approved a series of environmental clauses. Following PT SGPS indications and within the scope of its competences, PT Compras proceeded to review and introduce new Environment Protection clauses, both regarding Tender Documents and the corresponding Contracts to be signed between Group Companies and their suppliers, according to Portugal Telecom Sustainable Supplier Selection and Contracting Model.
In concrete terms, the following improvements were introduced:
Tender Document Programmes: - Inclusion of a “guaranteed environmental protection level”, as a tender selection criterion, on a par with the remaining technical criteria;
- Requirement for the potential supplier to present supporting documents constituting evidence of good environmental practices within the scope of business developed;
Model Contracts: - Increased detail regarding Environmental Protection Clauses included in Models, aiming to ensure Suppliers assume liability in case of non-compliance with the environmental legislation;
- Increased detail in the wording of clauses relative to waste management and final destination, according to community legislation – Directive 2006/21/CE of the European Parliament and Council – 15 Mar 2006, and national legislation DL 178/2006, from 5 Sep 2006.
PT Compras annually participates in the elaboration of the Group Sustainability Report, through elaboration of the Supplier Relations Chapter.
Internally, the company follows the Group regarding actions developed in the sense of promoting corporate Sustainability, of which the following should be emphasised: - Integrated Quality Policy, SST, having obtained Quality (April of 2006), Environment (July of 2007) and SST (September of 2007) Certifications - Creation of the Ethics Commission, in January of 2007 - Integrated Information Systems.
Promotion of Continuous Improvement and Sustainable Growth for the Group, through systematic Internal Client surveys, comparison with national and international Benchmarks and interaction with Suppliers.
